How come you are in Stockholm/Sweden this spring (April and May) and what will you do here?
I have been invited to do a residency at IASPIS. While I am here I am planning to do 1000 drawings and to hang out with Swedish people.
How was it exhibiting at Malmö Konsthall (2007)? What is your strongest memory from this exhibition?
The show at Malmo Konsthall was a lot of fun, but hard work. The curator is an old friend of mine so it was an ideal exhibiting experience.
My strongest memory of the show as making a wall painting in the last hour of the installation period. I had no idea what I was doing but it turned out OK in the end.
If you would tell us what is most significant for David Shrigley, what would that be?
Most significant? Sleep and food. I get grumpy if I don’t get enough.
You work with drawings, texts, animations, objects and sculpture. It seems like you switch very naturally between these different expressions, is that right?
I think it’s good to switch between media. It stops me from getting bored.
How do you see upon your releasing of objects and books? Does it give you inspiration to your other work?
Books and multiples; t-shirts; greetings cards, etc are all part of my work. There is no hierarchy of media. I always feel like the next thing I’m going to do is going to be the best thing. It doesn’t matter what it is; a book, a sculpture, whatever; but it’s always the next thing that is the most interesting.
Thanks so much David, and very welcome to Stockholm and the Kolla!-cermony on April 28.
