Johansson vs. Zorn
Johansson vs. Zorn, The Zorn Museum, Mora, Sweden, 2013
Ritator designed the exhibition catalogue for “Johansson vs. Zorn” for The Zorn Museum, Mora, Sweden. The artist’s concepts informed the design of the publication.
Johansson’s exhibition attempted to challenge the legacy of Sweden’s most famous artist, Anders Zorn (1860-1920), through a personal narrative. One of the strategies he employed was to use a red-orange colour associated with town of Falun, Sweden, and cover famous Zorn portraits.
This signature colour became the theme for the exhibition catalogue design as well. For example, on the cover of the publication a Zorn painting was printed. Once the books were ready to be shipped, Ritator and Johansson covered the reproduced portraits with a stroke of red paint, making each book a unique and collectable object.
